Midwest Hemp Council Applauds Targeted Approach in Missouri to Address Shared Marketplace Concerns

On September 1, Missouri began visiting certain small business owners around the state and asking them to voluntarily destroy their inventory of hemp products with the goal of protecting public health and safety. While this approach was an overreach by the government, there are shared market concerns with “look-a-like” products that are attractive to minors and confusing to adults.

This new focused approach announced by Governor Parson and Attorney General Bailey today will provide much better results to protect public health and safety without shuttering thousands of businesses and eliminating as many jobs around the state. Such an approach will allow the Missouri General Assembly to continue to work with hemp industry to address genuine market concerns by raising the industry bar to protect consumers while ensuring adults have a choice on the wellness marketplace.
